Red deer in rain

The annual rut of the red deer is always a photographical highlight for me.

The best time for the rut of the red deer is usually mid to late September. Early morning and late afternoon are the best time to go out and see the deers in their rut behavior; especially after cold nights because that seems to contribute at lot to their activity.

When this picture was taken, the heather was late in bloom, which gave some of the rut areas a beautiful pinkish glow.

One particular afternoon during a heavy rain shower, one of the fawns from the herd I had been following for days stepped out into the heather. I chose a somewhat slow shutter speed so the rain would be visible, waited for her to stand still and took this photo.
